6,729 new infections and 217 deaths reported nationwide
The number of new infections with the corona virus is apparently falling nationwide. As the Robert Koch Institute announced today, the health authorities reported 6,729 cases yesterday. That is around 400 new infections less than a week ago, although several federal states did not report full numbers at the time. It is also the lowest value for a Monday since mid-October.
The RKI recorded around 111 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days. Politicians aim for an incidence value below 50.
Three northerners go into a stricter lockdown
In Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein, the tougher corona measures agreed at the federal-state summit come into force today. This includes, for example, a stricter mask requirement. So-called medical masks, such as surgical masks, FFP2 masks or KN95 masks, are now necessary in local transport and in shops.
The rules apply until February 14th. You can find details on our page on the current corona regulations in northern Germany.
Stricter requirements in Flensburg and Pinneberg
In the city of Flensburg and in the Pinneberg district, stricter corona rules apply from today. At the weekend, the threshold of 200 was exceeded there. All changes in the two areas at a glance:

Although the seven-day incidence of corona infections in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district is below 150, stronger protective measures to contain the pandemic will apply there from today. Accordingly, visiting daycare centers and child care centers as well as school attendance up to and including February 14th is prohibited. In exceptional cases, emergency care takes place. As announced by the Ministry of Education, children in grades 1 to 6, whose parents are active in areas of major importance to the community, can take advantage of emergency care. Students in the final year were an exception. In compliance with strict hygiene regulations, they were given the option of face-to-face lessons in preparation for their exams. For the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald, the stricter conditions apply from Wednesday, Monday and Tuesday are so-called transition days.
The se regulations already apply and remain in place for the Mecklenburg Lake District.
