Because of the coronavirus pandemic and the associated measures, some parishes had to cancel the initiative. Therefore, the “extraordinary” carol singers 2020/2021 will be extended, announced Hohl in a broadcast on Friday.

Especially in pandemic times, every donation is “needed more urgently than ever in the poor regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America”, according to the Dreikönigsaktion (DKA), the youth group’s development organization.

Creative ideas

The chairman of the Jungschar positively emphasized the creativity and commitment of the honorary carol singers who had developed alternatives to the traditional home visit of the Three Kings. In addition to physical visits at a distance, mouth-nose protection and singing from the sound carrier, the DKA broke new ground this year to help those in need in the Global South: There was a video good news, carol-singers mail and online car-singing visits.

“When the going gets tough, you have to stick together”, this star singing message remains relevant, especially in the pandemic year, emphasized Hohl. This credo applies both in Austria and across all borders. With the help of the donations, DKA can support over a million people in Africa, Latin America and Asia as well as numerous projects.

Focus country South India

The donations will benefit street children in Kenya as well as numerous human rights and care projects. The focus of the caroling campaign in 2021 is South India, where farming families are supported in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which are particularly hard hit by climate change.

Prominent supporters

The “Three Kings” traditionally visited Cardinal Christoph Schönborn again this year at the start of the campaign. Politicians such as Federal President Alexander van der Bellen, Chancellor and Vice Chancellor, and numerous ministers also received virtual visits and visits to the open air from the carol singers.

Donation notice

DKA asks for online donations or directly to the account of the Dreikönigsaktion IBAN: AT23 6000 0000 9300 0330.

On Epiphany (January 6th), Cardinal Schönborn himself accompanied a group of carolers from the parish of Hütteldorf, reported the youth group of the Archdiocese of Vienna on Friday. “I look back on this year’s Epiphany with great thanks,” the cardinal said literally. And further: “The carol singers were on the road under very different conditions. Thanks to everyone who accepted you! ”The result of this year’s caroling campaign will be known by the end of March 2021.
