Cross-country skiing: Russian team bus tips 50 meters into a lake

According to the Swiss newspaper “Blick”, the accident happened on Tuesday night ( December 29th) behind the Swiss border crossing. At around 1 a.m., the minibus skidded in a bend on the icy Via della Val along the reservoir. The car spun and tipped backwards 50 yards down the bluff into the lake.

The Russians were really lucky that there was no disaster. Because thanks to the icy surface, half of the car got stuck in the ice. The six men (35, 36, 36, 38, 48, an age is unknown) were able to free themselves from the dangerous situation and could make the emergency call.

After the call, the fire brigade was on duty with three vehicles and eight men, and the police and a team of doctors also moved to the scene of the accident. However, the recovery of the accident vehicle took many hours and was only finished at 8:30 a.m.

The victims got away with a serious shock and minor injuries. Only one Russian suffered a concussion and a minor head injury. However, the sextet refused medical treatment.

They landed in Zurich on Monday evening and took a minibus towards Livigno. There the Russian team prepared for the Tour de Ski.

Markus Cramer, the German coach of the Russian team, told the Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet”: “We are shocked, but glad that everything is okay. It was a terrible fall. ”
