Ulm (dpa / lsw) – Many senior citizens in the country are currently facing several hurdles on the way to a corona vaccination. While people over 80 years of age are visited by vaccination teams in retirement and nursing homes, those who live at home have to take care of a vaccination themselves. Older people are often overwhelmed by registering via an online portal, and the telephone hotline was overloaded when appointments began.
In addition, vaccinations were initially only possible in ten large vaccination centers and the appointments were accordingly rare. On January 22nd, the 50 district vaccination centers in the south-west started. The start of the vaccination, originally planned for mid-January, had been postponed due to the lack of vaccine.
The way to the vaccination center remains a problem for many over 80 year olds with limited mobility. Some also worry about a possible infection when using public transport.
The re is no reimbursement of costs for a taxi ride to the vaccination center and back home in Baden-Württemberg. From the point of view of the state government, everyone is responsible for driving to the vaccination center. In the strategy of the state government, vaccination appointments at home or at the family doctor are not currently provided.
