Stade (dpa / lni) – Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) does not consider the terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) planned at the Stade location, including the necessary jetty on the Lower Elbe, to be approved. According to a legal opinion presented by the association on Thursday, shipping law and environmental law reasons speak against it. The project intervenes in sensitive natural areas and represents a considerable risk of accidents, according to the report.
DUH Federal Managing Director Sascha Müller-Kraenner called the project a “step backwards into a fossil age” and called for an immediate halt to planning. “Otherwise we will consider further legal action.” The “Hanseatic Energy Hub” LNG terminal with two large storage tanks and an evaporation system in which the liquid and cryogenic LNG is regasified is to be built at the site by 2026.
