Munich – Due to the corona, the Maredo steakhouses are currently closed, but they will no longer open in the future. The company is insolvent and has now also made a radical cut: All employees have been fired.
Maredo: Branches at the airport and cattle market have to close
Thus, the workforce at the two Munich restaurants also lost their jobs – in addition to the Maredo at the airport, the entire team at the steak restaurant at Rindermarkt, which still invites you to “enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere” on the Internet. “We are forced to take this step of terminating the employment relationship because there is hardly any liquidity in the company to be able to pay the wages and salaries”, it says in the “employee information” of the Maredo management including the insolvency administrator, which is available to AZ.
First in need of restructuring, now insolvent
The catering company, founded in 1973 and based in Düsseldorf, had already filed for insolvency in March 2020. About half of the approximately 950 employees had to leave at that time, but the management was still confident and in April described Maredo as “worthy of renovation”.
Maredo complains about a lack of state financial aid
The steak house chain would “from the point of view of the responsible authorities not meet the requirements for November and December aid”. It is obvious that the company takes a different view.
450 Munich residents without a job
The fact is: all restaurant leases were terminated on December 31, 2020. “Now we have no choice but to lay off all employees,” says Maredo: “That is bitter and disappointing.” Especially for the 450 or so people who are now without a job.
