After a short palpation, Nicolas Gonzalez is knocked off his feet in the penalty area, the Argentine takes responsibility and skilfully loads Augsburg keeper Rafal Giekiwicz – 1-0 (10th)! Shortly afterwards, the home side missed the equalizer, as Daniel Caligiuri only hammered a free kick on the crossbar (14th).
Stuttgart then makes a lot of steam and rewarded themselves after 29 minutes with the second goal by Silas Wamangituka, who shoots a Sosa pass into the mesh. The Augsburgers present themselves in shock and are lucky that Gonzalez fails shortly before the break with a lift to Giekiwicz (43.).
Section two provides a completely different picture. Just 30 seconds after the restart, Marco Richter shakes the hosts with the connection goal (46th). Augsburg senses the chance to equalize, but leaves the possibilities through Vargas (51st).
Then VfB takes over the scepter again: While Gonzalez scrambles past the double with an overhead kick (60th), Stuttgart captain Gonzalo Castro writes a minute later – 3: 1 (61st)! Although the FCA tries hard, nothing wants to succeed offensively. The inglorious Augsburg end point is set by Richter, who has to leave the court within three minutes for complaining plus foul play with yellow-red (76th). Heiko Herrlich’s men do not recover from this bloodletting.
Substitute Daniel Didavi made it for VfB in the 87th minute after a cross from Waldemar Anton for the 4-1 final score. For Augsburg it sets the second home bankruptcy en suite. Augsburg occupies 11th place with 19 points, Stuttgart overtakes tenth place with two more points.
