On the 1st descent from Crans-Montana, Sofia Goggia once again demonstrated why she is the leader in the discipline classification. © www.de24.news The  Italian decided the 3rd descent de suite for herself. Starting with the number 9, the 28-year-old wielded the finest blade and displaced Ester Ledecka by two tenths to second. Breezy Johnson (USA) completed the podium, who now took third place in all 4 races in this discipline. For Goggia it was the 9th World Cup success.

 The  Swiss women

  • 5. Jasmine Flury +0,95
  • 7. Priska Nufer +1,05
  • 14. Corinne Suter +1.20
  • 16. Lara Gut-Behrami +1.35
  • 22. Joana Hählen +1.78
  • 23. Noémie Kolly +1,81
  • 24. Jasmina Suter +1.86
  • 33. Michelle Gisin +2,40
  • 43. Stephanie Jenal +3,25

With starting number 27, Jasmine Flury threw herself down the slope – and surprised all along the line. Despite the soft snow, the Davos rider enjoyed a high speed without losing control. In the end, she took 5th place as the best Swiss woman. Priska Nufer, with the 29 on her back, also seized the opportunity and finished 7th just 1 tenth behind Flury – her best World Cup result of her career.

Gut-Behrami and Suter rejected

The  pictures of the radiant Lara Gut-Behrami from a year ago are unforgettable: At that time, the Ticino woman triumphed in both home races in Crans-Montana. Twice before Corinne Suter. But both Gut-Behrami and Suter were able to fail this year, at least in their first attempt, not to match those brilliant achievements. Without any glaring mistakes in their runs, it still glowed red at the finish.

Michelle Gisin hadn’t been able to get used to the track during training. That did not change during the serious fight either. Many small uncertainties made a top result impossible for the five-time podium driver of the winter.

First snow, then wind

The  piste was in acceptable condition in the afternoon – albeit a bit soft – but the wind was blowing powerfully. So powerful that the race even had to be interrupted for minutes. In addition, the route was shortened.

So it goes on

On the weekend, the women race down the same slope again, on Saturday in the 2nd descent (10:00 am), the next day in the Super-G (12:00 pm). You can follow both races live on SRF zwei and in the Sport App.
