Health – PEI looks at 10 deaths shortly after vaccination – Health

Langen (dpa) – With the 10 deaths reported so far shortly after a corona vaccination, experts from the Paul Ehrlich Institute consider a connection with immunization to be unlikely.

In these cases, seriously ill people died within four days of being vaccinated, reported the federal institute responsible for vaccines and biomedical drugs in Langen, Hesse. “Based on the data that we have, we assume that the patients died of their underlying disease – in a coincidental manner in relation to the vaccination,” said Brigitte Keller-Stanislawski, the department head responsible for the safety of drugs and medical devices.

For reasons of personal protection, she could not say anything about individual cases, “but these are very seriously ill patients with many underlying diseases.” Some were treated palliatively. So far, more than 800,000 people in Germany have received their first vaccination dose.

The  President of the Robert Koch Institute, Lothar Wieler, had already pointed out before the EU approval of the Biontech preparation that, due to the statistical probability, “people will die in connection with the vaccination” – for example because “the old and very old” first People “who are generally at higher risk of dying because of their age are vaccinated.

In the future, the PEI wants to provide weekly information about the reported side effects after a corona vaccination. As of Sunday, the PEI had received 325 suspected cases with 913 side effects, including 51 suspected cases with serious side effects. This corresponds to 0.53 suspected cases per 1000 vaccine doses or 0.08 suspected cases of serious side effects per 1000 vaccine doses.

By far the most common side effects reported were headache, injection site pain, fatigue and body aches. Such temporary side effects are somewhat stronger than those of a flu vaccination, said PEI President Klaus Cichutek. Serious side effects are very rare, and a connection is often unclear. “©

The  risks are very, very limited.” Opponents of the vaccination would have to see that they would be protected from a serious or even life-threatening course of the infectious disease with a spade. No abbreviations were taken for testing the vaccines.

The re is no contra-indication for allergy sufferers either, but to be on the safe side, they should stay at the vaccination center for 15 minutes after vaccination. According to the current state of knowledge, there is no evidence that the previously approved vaccines are not effective against the mutations of the virus that have now emerged, said Cichutek.
