144 meters on the big Olympic hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Thanks to this set, in which he even telemarks on landing, Dawid Kubacki from Poland flies to victory in the New Year’s competition. And not only that: It breaks the hill record (143.5 meters) that Simon Ammann set in 2010 and Marius Lindvik ( No) equalized a year ago.
The other jumpers in Garmisch do not come close to Kubacki, who in addition to his 144 meters in the second jump first reached 139 meters. The second placed Halvor Granerud ( No) jumps on 137 m and 136 m. Kubacki’s compatriots Piotr Zyla came in third (129.5 / 137) and Kamil Stoch in fourth (135/132) right behind Granerud. Oberstdorf winner Karl Geiger is fifth on New Year’s (131/138).
Because Kubacki was only 15th in the opening competition before the turn of the year in Oberstdorf, Granerud took the lead in the overall standings with 555 points, ahead of Geiger (551), Stoch (548) and high-flyer Kubacki (546).
