The first new S-Bahn train in Berlin is on the line

Growth for the Berlin S-Bahn fleet: the first S-Bahn train of the new class 483/484 will leave on line 47 between Spindlersfeld and Hermannstrasse shortly after midnight. Start is at Schöneweide train station.

Two more trains are to be added on the same line in the course of the day. In total, the Berlin S-Bahn has ordered 106 trains of the new series from the manufacturers Stadler and Siemens, the last of which is to be delivered at the end of 2023.

In addition to the S47, they will also be used on the S41 / 42 ring line, the S46 between Königs Wusterhausen and Westend and the S8 between Zeuthen and Birkenwerder.

The heart of the Berlin S-Bahn fleet with around 650 trains remains the 481 series. The 500 or so vehicles in this series are to be converted and optically adapted to the new trains by the end of 2023. Equipped with black doors and blue seat covers, many of them are already on the Ringbahn route. With the commissioning of the latest series, the bottom line is that the fleet will grow by more than 40 trains because older vehicles will cease to operate in the same period.
