The planets of the solar system formed in two waves

        <p><a href="https://www.de24.news/"><img class="alignnone size-medium" src="https://www.de24.news/a1/de24.png" alt="© www.de24.news" width="400" height="20" /></a><p>&nbsp;The&nbsp; researchers at ETH and the University of Zurich, together with colleagues from Germany and England, are now using computer simulations of the early solar system to provide an explanation in the journal "Science".  And thus contradict the common model of planet formation, as the ETH Zurich announced on Thursday.</p>            

According to this, the first planetary components of the inner solar system formed extremely early, when the solar system emerged from a disk of gas and dust 4.5 billion years ago.

 The  prehistoric lumps, around 100 kilometers in size, consisted of ice crystals on which part of the water vapor condensed on grains of dust.

Only: the gas disc also contained the radioactive isotope aluminum-26, which the still water-rich chunks inherited and heated up from the inside. Lava and water formed, which evaporated due to the heat.

After that, it was quiet in the solar system for around half a million years before the second wave of planet formation took off in the outer solar system. New planetary building blocks were formed from dust particles that moved in the direction of the sun and were stopped at the boundary between the inner and outer solar systems.

However, a large part of the radioactive isotope had already decayed so that less volatile elements could evaporate. This paved the way for the creation of the gas and ice giants.

 The  formation of the planets in the outer solar system began later, but was completed much faster; the inner planets took much longer,” explained the first author of the study, Tim Lichtenberg from Oxford University.

In the inner solar system, the building blocks of the planets collided with each other and grew to their present size and composition through the accumulation of dust particles. In the late phase the earth probably received additional water-rich supplies from the outer solar system, which Jupiter deflected into the interior due to its gravity.
