WHO recommends a longer period of time between two vaccinations

The World Health Organization has called on European countries to extend the period of time between the two planned corona vaccinations per person.

The distance between the two vaccine doses can be handled flexibly within certain limits, said WHO European Director Kluge. In view of the limited production capacities, a safe compromise has to be found on this issue. Some countries have already started delaying the second dose for up to 12 weeks in order to give more people the first dose in the short term. The procedure is controversial. The manufacturers Pfizer and Biontech point out that the second vaccination should take place no later than 3 weeks after the first.

The WHO also called on the states in Europe to take stronger protective measures. The situation is alarming because the variant of the corona virus, which was initially detected in Great Britain, is spreading widely.
