The  number of patients admitted to hospital because of a Covid 19 infection has been falling in the canton of Zurich since the end of January. 21 percent of the intensive care units are currently occupied by Covid 19 patients. Nevertheless, they are almost 100 percent full because 2500 postponed operations have to be rescheduled.

From November 2020 to January 2021, more than 50 percent of the intensive care units in Zurich’s hospitals were occupied with Covid 19 patients, as the Association of Zurich Hospitals (VZK) announced on Tuesday.

The se 2,500 or so operations have to be carried out over the next few weeks. Otherwise severe secondary diseases can be expected, writes the VZK.

The  health workers remain in great demand and the long-term utilization at a very high level strains resources enormously. So that the postponed operations can now be carried out, the hospitals are dependent on the number of Covid 19 patients to continue to decrease. Under no circumstances should they rise again.

The  VZK represents 32 institutions with around 34,800 employees. Listed hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, specialty clinics and care centers in the canton of Zurich belong to the association. © www.de24.news

The  Schaffhausen hospitals are also members.
