The first open-air game in the NHL on the shores of Lake Tahoe came to an enormous delay on Saturday.
February 21, 2021
The Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights had to wait over 8 hours after the first third before the game could be resumed at 9:00 p.m. local time.
Because of the sunny weather, the artificial ice surface caused problems for a long time. “We have come to the conclusion, along with our ice experts and both teams, that it is not safe and appropriate to continue play at this point,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.

After an 8-hour break, Colorado finally left the ice 3-2 as the winner in the late evening. On Sunday, the Philadelphia Flyers will meet the Boston Bruins in another open-air game. The NHL had an ice rink built on a golf course at Lake Tahoe, which resulted in spectacular images.
In one of the regular Saturday games, Connor McDavid shone once more.
The Canadian scored three goals in the 7-1 home win of his Edmonton Oilers against the Calgary Flames and had a total of five points. Sidney Crosby, meanwhile, played his 1,000 game for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 3-2 win against the New York Islanders.
The striker contributed two assists to the narrow home win.
