It didn’t look like it for a long time, on Sunday evening the VfB Stuttgart advisory board surprisingly announced that Claus Vogt would be nominated for the presidential election. At the same time, several association councils announced their resignation.
Stuttgart – The weekend was already drawing to a close when the leadership crisis at VfB Stuttgart took a new, surprising turn: incumbent Claus Vogt will now be nominated for the presidential election on March 28th. And as the sole candidate!
The association’s advisory board announced that there was no willingness to compete against Vogt from among the other possible candidates. This means that Volker Zeh, who had applied for the highest office in the club, is out of the running. For the 54-year-old Vogt, a simple majority of the votes is enough for re-election. At least for the time being, he can feel like the great winner of the power struggle between himself, Thomas Hitzlsperger and large parts of the Bundesliga soccer team.
“Unbearable what situation our VfB is in”
The deputy chairmen Claudia Maintok and James Bührer resigned and gave personal reasons. Wolf-Dietrich Erhard, the chairman of the committee, will leave his office with immediate effect. He said: “It is unbearable what situation our VfB is in and how we are currently publicly presenting ourselves. With my decision, I would like to help ensure that a new start is possible. ”
On Saturday, the supervisory board had dismissed the two board members Stefan Heim (finance) and Jochen Röttgermann (marketing).
