“A lonely place” actress Martha Stewart is dead


In her short career she was one of the greats of the dream factory and celebrated big box office successes in the 40s and 50s. But now actress Martha Stewart has died at the age of 98.

In 1950 Martha Stewart played Mildred Atkinson in “Ein Einsamer Ort” and then became a screen star at the latest. Stewart, not to be confused with the 79-year-old US presenter, entrepreneur and television cook of the same name, is dead.  The  actress from “A Lonely Place”, in which Stewart was seen alongside Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957), died according to her daughter on February 17th at the age of 98.

Short career, great success

“Martha Ruth Haworth aka Martha Stewart” went “peacefully in the presence of her family and cat.” Stewart began her career as a singer and landed her first role in the film “Doll Face” in 1945. In 1947 she appeared together with Henry Fonda (1905-1982) and Joan Crawford (1905-1977) in the drama “Daisy Kenyon” before she appeared in front of the camera with Bogart three years later in the crime thriller “Ein Einsamer Ort”. 1952 followed another appearance in the musical film “Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick”. It was only twelve years later, in 1965, that she was seen for the last time in an episode of the TV series “My Three Sons”.

 The  number three played an important role in love: Stewart was married three times and had three children with her third husband, David Shelley. Her son David died in 2015 of complications from cancer.
