Addison Rae struggles with bodyshaming

TikTok star Addison Rae speaks publicly about bodyshaming – and how much her mental health has suffered as a result.

Addison Easterling, known as Addison Rae, is one of the most successful TikTokers worldwide, launched her own beauty brand in August 2020 and will soon be seen on the big screen in the remake of “Eine wie keine”.

In an interview with the British “Glamor” she spoke about the dark side of life in public during her cover shooting. She is in therapy because of numerous hateful comments, among other things.

Chosen for you

© The  most painful comments for the 20-year-old are statements about her body, she revealed in an interview. As a dancer, it was a matter of course for her from an early age to compare herself with others but that doesn’t put the negative statements into perspective.

“I’m 20 and my body is changing all the time, but people have these high expectations about your body image and say, ‘Oh, you have to look like this to look good or hot, or to be cool or pretty’ (…) A lot of people say about me, ‘I love how confident she is – and she doesn’t meet the beauty standard’ (…) or ‘I’m so glad that she is confident even though she is not perfect,’ “says Addison. But she can hardly be happy about such comments, because they imply that she should not actually be considered beautiful.

Chosen for you

“It hurts when people say something like that because everyone is perfect. So why is there this standard, ‘This body is the ideal body’? (…) I have thought a lot over the last year that that doesn’t define me should and I am currently learning to accept my body for what it is and to love me – for what I am, “adds the 20-year-old.

The rapy contributed a large part to self-acceptance. “Self-worth is an important issue that I’ve worked hard on for the past few months because it’s a problem that affects you every day,” says Addison Rae. She is also very grateful to have support from her friends and family.

Addison Rae advocates greater acceptance

Only last year, the TikTokerin drew attention to hateful comments on the net. She would wish that you would practice more self-love and take care of your own health, she wrote on Twitter.
