Ice hockey on the lake: The Colorado Avalanche beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in the NHL open-air game on Lake Tahoe.
Despite an eight-hour break, the Colorado Avalanche did not let themselves be disturbed and won the first open-air game of the NHL on Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada against the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2. Colorado got a hit in every third through Samuel Girard, Nathan MacKinnon and Devon Toews.
The bright sunshine forced the league to take a long break after the first third. “We have come to the conclusion, together with our experts and both teams, that it is not safe and appropriate to continue the game at this point,” said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. After sunset the game could be played to the end.
The NHL has specially built an ice rink on a golf course at Lake Tahoe, and the second game between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers will take place on Monday night. «We have already organized 30 outdoor games. Here we have the most difficult weather conditions so far – and it’s such a beautiful day, ”says Bettman.
