The FC Bayern chapter ended for David Alaba in the summer. The defense chief confirms his departure after 13 years. He is now looking for a new challenge. Just where?

David Alaba has confirmed his departure from FC Bayern at the end of the season, but has not yet found his future employer. “I personally made the decision to do something new after this season, to leave the club,” said the defense chief of the German record champions on Tuesday at a press conference.
The Austrian has not yet found a new employer. “I have not yet made the decision as to where the journey will go,” said the 28-year-old. He didn’t set a time limit. It is expected that Alaba will move abroad. Real Madrid have been the favorites so far.
A piece of Bavaria history
“It’s no secret that my management is in contact with the clubs,” he replied when asked about a possible interest from FC Barcelona. Alaba’s successor at FC Bayern is Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig, whom the Viennese praised as a player with “a lot of talent and potential”.
Alaba is a piece of Bavaria history. In 2008 the Austrian moved from Austria Vienna to Munich. Since his Bundesliga debut in 2010, he worked his way up the hierarchy of the German record champions, first as a left-back and finally under Hansi Flick as a recognized head of defense.
Contract negotiations become a mudfight
In November 2020, FC Bayern withdrew its contract offer to Alaba. Previously, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß had described his advisor Pini Zahavi as a “greedy piranha”. Allegedly the salary claim should have been more than 20 million euros per year.
The money was “not a factor” for him, said Alaba and emphasized the association’s appreciation. “Personally, I have always had a very, very good internal relationship with those responsible, and I still have them.”
