In the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden several gatherings of people had to be broken up by the police on Saturday. No buses were distributed.
On Saturday shortly after noon, the Appenzell Ausserrhoden canton police received the message that a carnival parade was to be formed in Schönengrund AR. The police immediately moved out with several patrols and were able to find around 200 people on the streets and around 100 people in the area of the multi-purpose building. After the police were on site, according to a message from the Appenzell Ausserrhoden canton police, the crowd on the area dissolved within a very short time.
The people on the streets, who were obviously waiting for the move to begin, were made aware of the applicable provisions relating to the Covid Regulation. The groups disbanded as a result and, according to the police, no fines had to be issued.
Several residents report people dressed up. “I drove past it on the street and saw some disguised people with handcarts,” says a resident to 20 minutes. The police were there very quickly and broke up the hustle and bustle. A local resident said he heard some carnival cattle and music in the afternoons. “I ran past it and hoped that I would not be fined,” says another resident. She herself did not agree with the hustle and bustle. “But everyone has to know for themselves.”
The Schönengröndler parade on Carnival Saturday is organized by the Schönengrund Carnival Committee (FAKO). This year it was actually canceled in advance due to Corona. Anina Müller, President of FAKO Schönengrund, was amazed when she saw carnival people with handcarts in the village. For her personally, that would not have been an option. “I’m passionate about Carnival, but you should still stick to the rules this year,” says Müller. She explains the casserole by sticking to tradition. “I think it’s wrong to want to move, but it’s understandable,” said Müller.
The decision to cancel this year’s move was only logical. «We had no other choice, »said Müller. Last year it was much more difficult. “It was very frustrating to have to cancel the move after all the preparations.”
One now hopes that normality will return to normal very soon and that next year’s move will be possible. Samuel Friedel, President of Guggenmusik, also hopes Bläächi-Lömpe from Schönengrund. He was at home when the move started. His group also has nothing to do with the unauthorized move. “It is clearly forbidden,” emphasizes the president. But he also has a certain understanding that people long for normality. « The situation is not funny for us at the moment. Of course, I would much rather talk than sit at home, »Friedel says, confused.
Interventions were also made in Herisau
In the course of the afternoon, the Appenzell Ausserrhoden canton police had to intervene again with several patrols on a sports field in Herisau. Around 150 people in different group sizes were around the square. The police made those present aware of the Covid regulation, in particular the 5-person rule. Since the people were understanding and left the place, no buses had to be issued.
