Clubhouse also in great demand for financial topics
Participation by invitation only
Trolls tend to hold back
The stock markets are still under the impression of the short-selling war that has recently broken out: many private small investors have mobilized via Reddit and other Internet forums and with concerted purchases the prices of heavily shorted stocks, such as the US video game retailer GameStop, have risen driven. In doing so, they caused high losses and even near ruin for some hedge funds, which were speculating on falling prices. In the meantime, the prices of the stocks concerned have fallen significantly again.
Hype um Clubhouse
Another channel through which financial discussions can take place is the audio-only app Clubhouse, in which you can listen to conversations in so-called rooms like a live podcast or actively participate in discussions.
The app has experienced a real hype since its debts in March, which is partly due to the fact that you can only participate with an invitation from an already registered user. It is precisely this exclusivity that makes Clubhouse all the more attractive. On the other hand, there are already numerous celebrities here such as Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg. Citing the analysis company Apptopia, “Bloomberg” reported that the app had already been downloaded around five million times.
Less trolls on the go
According to “Bloomberg”, the new forum could even develop into an ani-reddit for those interested in the financial market. Because for various reasons so-called trolls, i.e. people who willfully annoy and provoke, do not have it easy here.
On the one hand, this is due to the fact that it is publicly evident from the profile who invited you. This ensures that invitations are usually distributed with care.
In addition, there are so-called moderators who lead the discussion by getting users on the stage and turning them into speakers. Conversely, however, you can also get the users off the stage if they deem it necessary.
The se moderators can be characterized by in-depth specialist knowledge or simply by having a talent for leading discussions.
According to “Bloomberg”, participants have found that clubhouse naturally makes it easier to correct misinformation. In addition, the atmosphere is more collegial than in other areas of the Internet. Because in general it is easy to be disdainful when you can hide behind an avatar. On the other hand, at Clubhouse you have to defend your position with your own voice in front of an audience. It is precisely this element of voice that distinguishes Clubhouse from other social media channels such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter or Reddit and helps to keep trolls away.
Do not neglect self-protection
But the listeners themselves can also contribute to their own protection, namely, they should not forget that untrustworthy participants can also cavort on Clubhouse. For example, a clubhouse listener told Bloomberg that it was always a warning flag for her if only one person spoke. You therefore select discussions with several moderators who can correct bad information or at least question it if necessary.
