A contract extension at FC Schalke 04 is not yet in sight for Christian Gross. On the contrary: the club already seems to be looking for a successor.
Everything started so well for Christian Gross at Schalke 04. Already in his second game as coach, the Swiss led his new club to the first three after 30 games without a win and thus avoided Tasmania Berlin’s negative record.
But since then, even under the leadership of the former FCB successful coach, it doesn’t really want to. At the weekend it was a 0-4 swatter in the derby against Borussia Dortmund. An extension of the contract, which runs until June 31, therefore appears rather unlikely. As the “dpa” reports, Schalke is even looking for a replacement.
Outgoing sports director
One of the candidates is said to be coach Steffen Baumgart from the second division soccer club SC Paderborn. But he doesn’t want to worry about his future beyond the end of the season. “I’m currently not in conversation with any club,” said Baumgart the “Westfalenblatt” (Monday). Nothing will change until mid-March, said the 49-year-old. “After that, my first point of contact is SCP.”
Baumgart’s contract expires at the end of the season. The “Bild” newspaper brought Baumgart into discussion as a possible new Schalke coach. The knocked-down bottom of the Bundesliga table is facing his fourth first division relegation. However, the Revierclub first has to find a successor for the outgoing sports director Jochen Schneider. This should then sign a coach for the coming season.
