Biontech vaccinated people are apparently not contagious

The  Biontech vaccine is even more effective than expected: the vaccine almost eliminates the risk of serious disease progression – apparently also transmission to non-vaccinated people.

Extremely high protective effect – apparently also against the spread of the virus: © The  corona vaccine from the Mainz company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer is apparently even more effective than expected. © The  active ingredient is “highly effective” in preventing infections with Sars-CoV-2, according to a manuscript for a study by the two manufacturers together with the Israeli Ministry of Health. However, the study authors also write that their approach could lead to the effect of vaccination on infections being overestimated.

© The  study results are difficult to assess. © The  manuscript was leaked to Israeli journalists from the Internet portal “ynet” and has not been officially published, neither on a preprint server nor in a specialist journal examined by experts. It is available to the German Press Agency. Biontech did not want to comment on the document when asked on Sunday. © The  Ministry of Health did not comment either.

Lauterbach: “Return to normal life possible”

SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has already commented positively on the study results. “© The se evaluations are of great importance. © The y are the first clear indication that you are not infected and not contagious after vaccination,” he explains. In this way, vaccination would actually enable herd immunity – “and enable a return to normal life”.

Israel’s Corona representative Nachman Asch told the army broadcaster on Sunday that the data should be treated with caution: “We don’t yet know enough about infections, that’s the big unknown.” It is clear that the vaccination prevents serious disease courses. “But I don’t know to what extent it prevents people who have been vaccinated from carrying and passing on the virus.” He hoped to find out more about it in the coming weeks.

© The  Israeli Ministry of Health also presented new data on the protection of the vaccine on Sunday: According to this, 95.8 percent fewer infections were found two weeks after the second vaccination than in non-vaccinated people. A week after the second dose, the effectiveness was already 91.9 percent. According to the study, the vaccine also protects 99.2 percent from serious illness and 98.9 percent from fatal outcome two weeks after the second dose.

Health ministry director general Professor Chesi Levy said the data showed a significant decrease in disease and death rates. “We are the first country in the world that has been able to demonstrate the effectiveness of the corona vaccine in the real clinical world.”

© The  study’s data are based on nationwide surveys. Israel, which has a population of around 9.3 million people, runs one of the most ambitious vaccination programs in the world. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expects 95 percent of citizens over the age of 50 to be vaccinated in two weeks. Against this background, schools and many shops are allowed to reopen from this Sunday.
