- Blizzard’s in-house exhibition BlizzCon (line) provided insights into the future of popular brands.
- Among other things, Blizzard delivered news on “Diablo 2: Resurrected”, “Diablo 4”, “Overwatch 2”, “WoW” and “Hearthstone”.
- It remained quiet about “WarCraft 3: Reforged”, while nostalgics look forward to “Blizzard Arcade”.
For two days, Blizzard dedicated itself primarily to itself at its digital in-house exhibition BlizzCon. The publisher recently celebrated its 30th anniversary – and they currently have a lot of gaming irons in the fire.
The expansion “Lord of Destruction” is also on board.
The title should appear this year.
One of the biggest changes is, of course, the optics: Instead of 2D sprites like 21 years ago, the new edition shines with a 3D render model, dynamic light and revised animations. Owners of Xbox Series X / S and PS5 can also look forward to 4K resolution and smooth 60 frames per second. Nostalgics, on the other hand, have the option of choosing between new and old graphics at the push of a button.
Almost 30 minutes of cutscenes were recreated for the remaster, the sound was remixed in 7.1 surround sound. In addition to the single player mode, there will also be the option of up to eight monster hunters competing in co-op mode against Diablo and his hosts from hell. It is not yet clear whether this will also work across platforms.
Despite the graphic revision: Almost nothing should change in the gameplay and content, as Blizzard assures. After all, features such as the revised ranking seasons, an improved user interface and the expanded loot chest are pleasantly noticeable.
BlizzCon: “Diablo 4”, “Overwatch 2” und “World of Warcraft”
BlizzCon (line) also provided a glimpse into the future with insights into “Diablo 4” – for many the highlight of the Blizzard in-house exhibition. Among other things, the new (old) hero class Rogue, which is characterized by agility and adaptability, was presented.
The crook celebrates a comeback, because she is already known from the first part of “Diablo”.
The weapons and equipment that you get in the open game world should represent the respective region. In addition, actions of the player should have a lasting influence on further events and the game world. In the “Fields of Hatred” area you can also compete against other human players. However, the foretaste of the brand’s future has a flaw: Part 4 will not appear before 2022 or even 2023. After all:
The mobile game “Diablo: Immortal”, conceived as an MMO, will probably be released this year.
The next “Overwatch” generation
Blizzard also granted a glimpse behind the scenes of “Overwatch 2”: At the moment, the makers are working, among other things, on making the individual hero classes of the online hero shooter differ significantly in their individual skills.
The “World of Warcraft” community is also indulging in anticipation: Players of the Classic version will receive “Burning Crusade”, a free old-school-style expansion this year. If you don’t want to experience the expansion, you can stay on an existing “Classic” server. By the way:
The current WoW add-on “Shadowlands” is also being expanded to include a new raid and dungeon.
The new core set “Forged in the Brachland” is the start of the “Year of the Grasping”, which will start in a few weeks, contains 235 unlockable cards and replaces the classic and basic sets that have already been published.
The competitive single-player mode “Mercenaries” will follow later in the year. In the roguelike missions the characters have to be leveled up.
“Blizzard Arcade” und “WarCraft 3: Reforged”
The remaster of the real-time strategy hit appeared over a year ago and turned out to be a veritable flop. Blizzard promised improvement – but it is a long time coming. Only user-generated content was presented, just like for “StarCraft 2”. It remains to be seen whether the missing features for “Reforged” will ever be delivered later.
The last patch to date was released in October 2020. In the summer of 2020, the developers had announced features such as improved player assignment, rated seasons, rankings, profiles, their own campaigns and clans.
The Lost Vikings”, “Rock’n’Roll Racing” and “Blackthorne” in the original version as well in a “Definitive Edition” with added value such as local co-op and the option to save at any time. (ch)
