Berlin: In the debate about the sluggish vaccination campaign in Germany, SPD health expert Lauterbach has called for Astrazeneca’s vaccine to be released immediately for the first three priority groups. The “Bild am Sonntag” said Lauterbach that the vaccine remained lying around because not enough people from the first group registered or because they did not show up for the appointment. That is absurd and unbearable.
The vaccine should now be made available unbureaucratically to all those affected in these three groups who are under 65 years of age. Because there are no data on the effect of the preparation in older people, it is currently only given to people between 18 and 64 years of age in Germany. Lauterbach also expressed the hope that the vaccine from Biontech and Pfizer could achieve herd immunity. An Israeli study provides indications that after vaccination one is no longer infected and is also not contagious oneself.
