Deep cuts at Sports Direct

According to the annual accounts in the commercial register (“WirtschaftsCompass”), the negative equity was around 115 million euros. Sales fell from 97 to 68.5 million euros, the number of employees from 877 to 654, and those of the branches from 26 to 22. Sports Direct started in Austria with 50 stores after the takeover of Sport Eybl in 2014.  The  head office is in Wels.

 The  company writes that it is difficult to predict further business development due to the corona pandemic. After the first lockdown, however, sales developed “very positively”.
