Amendment of the Epidemic Act: DGKP and nursing assistants are allowed to test for the first time without a doctor’s order.
Mag. Elisabeth Potzmann, President of the Austrian Health and Nursing Association
Vienna (OTS) – Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Austrian Health and Nursing Association (ÖGKV) has been fighting for health and nursing staff to be allowed to carry out tests without a doctor’s order. Now the time has finally come. Today the existing epidemic law was supplemented by an amendment order in the health committee.
Now qualified health and nursing staff as well as nursing assistants are allowed to test and issue certificates without a doctor’s order. Nursing assistants can do this by arrangement and under guidance. “
The Austrian population has easier access to tests because caregivers can now test at a low threshold“, Says Mag. Elisabeth Potzmann, President of the Austrian Health and Nursing Association.
Graduated health and nursing staff and nursing assistants are now authorized to carry out swabs from the nose and throat, including point-of-care COVID-19 antigen tests, for diagnostic purposes.
The ÖGKV is preparing an information package for people who are entitled to test. This includes relevant information at www.oegkv.at as well as the possibility of a refresher training course for taking nose and throat swabs.
