Isak could never justify the million dollar investment. The Swede could not convince either with the professionals or for the second team. As a loan player at the Eredivisie Club Willem II, things went better with 21 goals in 18 games and so Real Sociedad San Sebastián transferred 6.5 million euros in 2019.
Breakthrough in the Basque Country
The 21-year-old was on the field six times for Real Sociedad in 2021. Outstanding nine times, he signed the scorers list.
The two-time La Liga champions have not lost since the end of January, and they have all won the last three games. In yesterday’s 4-0 win, Isak Deportivo Alavés shot a hat trick out of the Estadio Anoeta.
The renewed qualification for the Europa League is firmly in view and Champions League fourth place is only five points away.
BVB has a buyback option
The black and yellow were able to secure a buyback option when they switched in 2019. Isak could be ordered back to Signal Iduna Park for 30 million euros. In addition, BVB must be informed if another club should submit an offer.
However, it is hard to imagine that the runner-up will make use of the clause in the summer. Superstar Erling Haaland should be kept by all means. In the coming year, however, the Norwegian has an exit clause and could take the next step. If Isak is able to maintain his level of performance by then or maybe even improve it, the 18-time Swedish national player could celebrate his comeback at the Rheinlanddamm.
