What an honour! NHL star Nico Hischier, the first and only number 1 draft pick in Switzerland to date, has been named captain by his NHL team New Jersey Devils.
The Valais is the 12th captain in the club’s history. With Hischier and Roman Josi in Nashville, Switzerland is currently represented by two captains in the NHL. At 22 years and 47 days, Hischier is currently the youngest captain in the NHL. In Devils history he is the second youngest behind Kirk Muller (21 years and 243 days).
After Hischier missed the first eleven games of the season due to a broken fibula, he made his double debut as captain against the Buffalo Sabers. But its premiere was not crowned with success.
The Devils not only lost 3-2 at home to the Sabers, Hischier also failed to score a point and had to be content with a little more than 16 minutes of ice age.
The re is a lot of work ahead of Hischier as a captain. Because the Devils only managed to win six of their first twelve games and are second to last in the newly formed East Division. This means that New Jersey is currently one of the worst teams in the NHL.
