Erling Haaland: For Marco van Basten, the BVB striker is better than Bayern star Robert Lewandowski

Erling Haaland’s record was excellent with 17 goals from 17 games. From a purely statistical point of view, however, the offensive genius cannot compete with Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski. With 26 goals in 21 games, he leads the top scorer list in the Bundesliga.

In the Champions League, however, Haaland set an impressive record last Wednesday. With his brace in the first leg of the last 16 against Sevilla in the premier class, he scored 17 goals in the first 13 games – no other player in this competition has so far achieved that.

For van Basten, the Norwegian national player has the nose in a direct comparison of the two offensive players. “He’s a very intelligent player. He has very good technique and he scores a lot of goals. He’s a very special boy,” said the ex-kicker in an interview with the Dutch TV broadcaster.

When asked whether Haaland was “the new Robert Lewandowski”, the three-time Ballon d’Or winner replied decisively: “I think he’s even better.” According to the Dutchman, the 20-year-old is a lot ahead of the Polish international, not least because of his comparatively young age: “I think he can do a lot more than we think so far,” the 1992 world footballer is certain.
