Everything about the new edition of the compact SUV

(Motorsport-Total.com/Motor1) –

The  Qashqai is something like the Golf from Nissan: No model of the brand sells better in Europe than the compact SUV. More than three million qashqai have been sold since 2007. So it’s no wonder that the new edition that has just been presented has to hit the mark.

Let us first turn to the key data: Like its predecessors, the new Nissan Qashqai was designed and developed in Europe. © www.de24.news

The  design is more angular than before, the new CMF-C platform of the Renault-Nissan Alliance is under the sheet metal. (Which is why the Qashqai number 3 is probably also the blueprint for the future Renault Kadjar.)

Dimensions and optics

The  new Qashqai has increased its length by 35 millimeters and its height by 10 millimeters. © www.de24.news

The  width is plus 32 and the wheelbase plus 20 millimeters. Here is an overview of all dimensions:

Nissan Qashqai (2021)

Length: 4,425 mm
Width: 1,838 mm
Height: 1,635 mm
Wheelbase: 2,666 mm

The  front section of the new Qashqai is equipped with an enlarged Nissan V-Motion grille that is finished in chrome. It is flanked by extremely slim full LED matrix headlights with boomerang signature and daytime running lights. Super narrow gaps between all these details should give a high quality and precise impression.

The  new generation of the Qashqai will be available for the first time with 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels (the previous generation offered up to 19-inch wheels). Customers also appreciate the personal touch, which is why the new Qashqai is offered in 11 body colors with five two-color combinations, so that there are 16 variants to choose from.

The  larger, higher-resolution 9-inch display from NissanConnect is a digital gateway to navigation, entertainment and vehicle settings and is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with wireless Apple CarPlay also being introduced.

A new high-resolution, fully electronic 12.3-inch TFT multi-information screen offers a selection of configurable layouts for displaying navigation, entertainment, traffic or vehicle information, all of which are controlled via a new tactile rotary switch on the steering wheel.

The  optional 10.8-inch head-up display (HUD) is brand new, it should offer the largest image size in the segment. Important navigation, driver assistance and road information are projected onto the windshield in the driver’s field of vision.

The  home-to-car skills are compatible with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa devices. © www.de24.news

The  system supports a wide range of commands, including the ability for the driver to send destinations to the vehicle’s navigation system by speaking to their smart device. © www.de24.news

The  center console now offers USB charging ports with USB-A and USB-C ports on the front and rear.

The  longer wheelbase of the new Qashqai is used to create even more space for users. © www.de24.news

The  knee room for the rear passengers has increased by 28 mm to 608 mm, with more distance between the driver and front passenger. © www.de24.news

The  headroom at the front and rear has increased by 15 mm thanks to the slightly increased external dimensions.

The  electrically operated, hands-free tailgate enables effortless access to the trunk when your hands are anything but free. © www.de24.news

The  trunk volume has increased by more than 50 liters compared to the previous generation, which is partly due to the fact that the loading floor has been lowered by 20 mm due to the improved design of the rear suspension.

Popular features of the predecessor, such as the side storage compartments above the wheel arches and the Flexible Luggage Board System, have been retained and have been improved for the new model with newly shaped boards and durable carpet on the one hand and wipeable plastic on the other.

Where space allows, parents will appreciate that the rear doors can now be opened up to 85 degrees, making it easier for babies and toddlers to sit in the child seats.

The  new Qashqai, which supports Nissan’s goal of 50 percent of electrified vehicles in Europe by 2024, will not only be available with a 1.3 DiG-T petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, but will also mark the European debut of e- Power, a powertrain based on technologies from the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle.

With a 2WD and a 4WD variant, a 6-speed manual transmission or the new Xtronic transmission and the purely electric drive from e-Power, the drive options of the new Qashqai meet every customer requirement, with driving fun being the focus of all drive configurations.

The  12 V mild hybrid system available for the new Qashqai is a more cost-effective hybrid technology that offers torque assistance, extended idle stop, quick restart and coast stop [nur Xtronic] offers and improves both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (minus 4 g / km).

According to Nissan, the mild hybrid system increases the total weight of the vehicle by just 22 kilograms. When braking, energy is recovered through recuperation and stored in the lithium-ion battery. This charged energy is then made available during idling stop, coasting stop (only Xtronic versions) and with the torque assistant.

When coasting to a standstill, at speeds below 18 km / h and with the brakes on, the motor switches off and the stored energy is used to power the vehicle’s electrical devices. In this way, the engine stop can be extended and fuel consumption can be reduced.

The  mild hybrid system is coupled with the 1.3 DiG-T petrol engine, which was introduced in Qashqai in 2018. This engine has been further improved for the new Qashqai with 50 newly designed components and full Euro6-d conformity. © www.de24.news

The  1.3 petrol engine is available with two power levels – 140PS and 158PS – either with a 6-speed manual transmission or the new Xtronic transmission (only 158 PS).

The  maximum engine output is 5500 rpm, the maximum torque of 270 Nm is available in the 158 PS Xtronic and High-Power MT variants from 1750 rpm. Here is an overview of all technical data:

Nissan Qashqai (2021)

1.3 DiG-T Mildhybrid 2WD
Power: 103 kW (140 PS)
maximum torque: 240 Nm
Transmission: 6-speed manual

1.3 DiG-T Mildhybrid 2WD

maximum torque: 260 Nm
Transmission: 6-speed manual

1.3 DiG-T Mildhybrid 2WD / 4WD
Power: 116 kW (158 PS)
maximum torque: 270 Nm
Gearbox: Xtronic

1.5 Benziner e-Power 2WD
Power: 140 kW (189 PS)
maximum torque: 330 Nm

All-wheel drive will only be available for the 158 hp models with Xtronic. © www.de24.news

The  new 4WD control system and the drive selection mode are more intuitive and intelligent and adapt to external conditions with five driving modes – Standard, ECO, Sport, Snow and Off-Road. In the event of a wheel slip, the time in which the 4WD system intervenes has been reduced by a factor of five to around 0.2 seconds.

Nissan dispenses with diesel engines in the new Qashqai, the future magic word is “e-Power”. This system consists of a high-performance battery and an integrated drive train with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a variable compression ratio and 157 hp. In addition, there is a power generator, an inverter and a 140 kW electric motor of similar size and power as in the electric vehicles from Nissan. © www.de24.news

The  total output is just as large as the maximum output of the electric motor.

As the? It is not a plug-in hybrid with a combined system performance. © www.de24.news

The  special thing about the “e-Power” is that the petrol engine is used exclusively to generate electricity, while the wheels are completely driven by the electric motor. This means that the engine can always run in the optimal range, which leads to better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions compared to a conventional internal combustion engine.

Thanks to the pure electric motor drive, there is no delay like with an internal combustion engine or a traditional hybrid. Similar to the Leaf, the new Qashqai e-POWER benefits from a completely new driving experience with just one pedal, the e-pedal. © www.de24.news

The  driver can start, accelerate and decelerate by simply pressing the accelerator pedal.
