Feller on World Cup deficit: “Almost ashamed …” – winter sports

Manuel Pertl sensationally leads the World Cup slalom in Cortina d’Ampezzo on Sunday.  The  ÖSV technician is on the gold course halfway through the last medal decision. One of the top favorites for the world championship title, Flachau winner Manuel Feller, will have to bury his hopes after the first run.

He was 1.78 seconds behind the fastest time. Because of the warm conditions, unlike usual, the fastest 15 start first in the decision.

 The  Tyrolean missed the cut, so he will start the race late. That makes catching up even less likely. Because: In the first run, 100 runners cross the course, that will affect the slope.

Feller is ashamed

How did the backlog come about? “In the end it was just that the slope was brutally aggressive and the material was way too soft. That was completely different from the inspection. It was a misjudgment of the material. I had massive balance problems.

 The  conditions in the second run being different doesn’t do me any good if I have to go down as 20th. “

Feller looked visibly bent during the interview in the target area. He had fought his way back to the top of the world after his second herniated disc and the subsequent low form in the current season and, like Marco Schwarz, is one of the absolute best slalom riders this year.

Medal crime thriller

Pertl leads 0.14 seconds ahead of Italian Alex Vinatzer, 0.16 seconds ahead of Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solevaag. Black is eighth (+0.57 seconds). Michael Matt is 13th, 0.95 seconds back.
