“Felt alone” at FC Barcelona

Jérémy Mathieu played for FC Barcelona between 2014 and 2017 and did not have an easy time there.

“I had a very bad time at Barca last year,” the defender, who retired in summer 2020, told Catalan radio station RAC1.

Especially the 3-0 defeat in the Champions League against Juventus Turin left his memory badly.

“I had the feeling that I was to blame for the defeat in Turin, but I don’t understand why they beat me up,” said Mathieu: “ The re are eleven players in football.”

The  Frenchman continued: “I felt alone in the locker room, nobody supported me, and for me this is not football.”

Clemens Lenglet, who owed a late penalty against Cádiz on Sunday in La Liga, would be similar. “Everyone is killing Lenglet, I know how it is. He has to try to be positive to turn the tide and do his best,” said Mathieu.

“He’s not at the level he was at Atlético Madrid,” said Mathieu: “Personally, I think he made a mistake when he signed for Barca. He was a very important player at Atlético and I know not whether he is at Barcelona. “
