Guido Burgstaller once again demonstrated his impressive form in the second German Bundesliga on Saturday. The 31-year-old from Carinthia scored twice in the 3-2 home win of his FC St. Pauli over Darmstadt and thus in the seventh game in a row – that is a club record at the Hamburg cult club.
The guests hardly appeared offensively at first. That changed after the break. Tobias Kempe (47th) chased a free kick to the crossbar, Serdar Dursun failed to ÖFB keeper Dejan Stojanovic (50th). Nevertheless, St. Pauli met again at first. Omar Marmoush, who had missed a huge chance shortly before (58th), answered to 2-0, but Tim Skarke (64th) and Dursun (66th) made it 2-2 within just four minutes.
Turbulent final phase with a happy ending
After a counterattack, Burgstaller scored the victory, who was still in danger with Dursun’s picket header (86th) and Sebastian Ohlsson’s double rescue act on the line (90th + 4). St. Pauli improved to eleventh place, from the last seven games in which Burgstaller scored, the Hamburg team took 18 out of a possible 21 points.
