The  teams are preparing meticulously for the coming season. But with Sebastian Vettel and Aston Martin there is a big problem even before the start.

Formula 1: Sebastian Vettel loses valuable time in the simulator

After a year of forgetting at Ferrari, Vettel had switched to Aston Martin. Everything should get better at the British racing team, which was called Racing Point last season. ©

The  euphoria was huge. Team boss Otmar Szafnauer was full of praise for Vettel and had big dreams.

The  cooperation has long since started, Vettel had already been at the plant in England for a few days. ©

The  seat was adjusted and the Heppenheimer also provided important insights in the simulator. Stop! In the simulator? ©

The  question arises, of course, when Vettel will finally do the first laps in the new car. Not at all at first, and there is a simple reason. At Aston Martin, Vettel cannot drive on the track in a racing car before the winter tests in Bahrain in mid-March, cars from previous years are not available to the team.

Formula 1: Aston Martin does not have its own car – Vettel has to wait

“We’re not a big team. For example, we lease our engines and transmissions. ©

The y don’t belong to us. We have to return them after the season. That’s why we don’t have an old, roadworthy car that we can provide, ”explained Szafnauer in an interview with motor sports car. In addition there is a bittersweet farewell greeting from Ferrari. ©

The  Italians forbade their pilot, who was still bound until the turn of the year, from being allowed to run test kilometers for his new team in December.

Vettel has to make do with the simulator before he can really accelerate on the track. “©

The  plan is for him to come back to us before the tests. It’s only a few more weeks. We still have to update the simulator so that it can run the latest development specification, ”said Szafnauer, who recently couldn’t resist a swipe at Ferrari. For the Reds, however, the preparation looks very different. ©

The  Ferrari drivers, including Haas driver Mick Schumacher, have already completed the first laps on the home track in Fiorano – in Vettel’s old company car. (ck)
