Werder Bremen’s sports director Frank Baumann has made his team responsible after the clear defeat at TSG Hoffenheim. “Everyone performed badly, but we also didn’t work as a team,” said Baumann one day after the 4-0 defeat, which Werder threw back in the battle for class support: “We have to change that as soon as possible.”
Baumann was “disappointed, a bit angry” with the performance. So you couldn’t get any points in the Bundesliga, said the ex-national player and warned of the upcoming encounter on Friday against Eintracht Frankfurt (8.30 p.m. / DAZN). “At the moment there is not much that speaks for us,” said the 45-year-old: “But there is also the chance that we can surprise us with aggressiveness, greed and counter-jacking.”
The Bremen team is currently separated by five points from the relegation place, which they occupied at the end of the previous season and were only just able to secure the class remaining. “Last season we started with completely different goals and came a little way into a downward spiral,” said Baumann. This year he feels the team is “much more stable”, even if the performance in Hoffenheim did not underpin this.
