Galaxy Smartwatches Get New Features – Samsung Newsroom Germany

Samsung Health Monitor app is now available in Germany for the Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2

Keeping an eye on your own well-being – right on your wrist: With the Samsung Health Monitor app, smartwatch users can now also measure their blood pressure and perform an EKG. In this way, important vital functions can be tracked regularly.  The  app is now available in Germany on the Samsung Galaxy Watch3 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 with the latest wearable update.¹

In December, the Samsung Health Monitor app received a CE mark as a medical product and can now be used in 28 European countries² be used. This means that users of the Galaxy Watch3 and the Galaxy Watch Active2 in Germany now have the innovative functions that the smartwatch can use to conveniently monitor blood pressure and create an electrocardiogram.¹

Keep an eye on your own blood pressure

With the Samsung Health Monitor app, users can conveniently measure their blood pressure to gain additional insight into their wellbeing.³

 The  measurement can help to detect high blood pressure early. This enables users, in consultation with a doctor, to identify potentially early diseases that are associated with high blood pressure or to prevent possible consequences of untreated high blood pressure, such as strokes or heart disease.

As soon as the measurement has started, the smartwatch uses various LED sensors to determine the blood pressure from the changes in the reflected light. In order to enable reliable measurements, the measurement includes individual reference values ​​of the users.

 The  Samsung Health Monitor app analyzes the change in blood pressure in relation to the calibration value to determine the blood pressure. For this reason, users must calibrate the smartwatch with a conventional blood pressure cuff before the first measurement and at least every 28 days thereafter.⁴

 The  data obtained are securely stored on the connected Galaxy smartphone.¹ If users have activated the synchronization of their Samsung Health data, the blood pressure measurements are also securely stored in the cloud. If necessary, the data can be exported as a PDF, for example to share it with a doctor.

EKG check directly on the wrist

 The  Samsung Health Monitor app also offers the option of performing an electrocardiogram via its own sensor.

 The  EKG function analyzes the heartbeat of the user in order to detect any irregularities in the heart rhythm or a heart rate that is too high or too low.

 The  app assigns the result to one of four categories.

 The  app can help users recognize signs of a cardiac arrhythmia, such as atrial fibrillation, so that they can consult a doctor in good time for a specialist diagnosis.⁵

 The  measurement data is stored securely and only on the connected Galaxy smartphone.¹ If necessary, the data can be exported as a PDF, for example to share it with a doctor.

Samsung Pay beta for wearables

In addition to the new health features, the software update also includes the Samsung Pay app. From March 4th, 2021, cashless payments will also be possible with compatible Galaxy Smartwatches from Samsung⁶ – Intuitive and flexible directly with the smartwatch on the wrist. Samsung Pay has been officially available for Galaxy smartphones since the end of October.

Availability

 The  Samsung Health Monitor app is available to users with the latest software update, which can be easily installed via the Galaxy Wearables app.

 The  app is currently only available on the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3. In order to take blood pressure or ECG measurements, the app must be installed on the smartwatch and a Galaxy smartphone with Android 7.0 or later.
