Health Minister Anschober expects deliveries of “far more” than 180,000 cans in the next week.
More than 500,000 corona vaccinations have been carried out in Austria, and more than 200,000 people have already been fully immunized. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) reported on Sunday. “Next week we expect the delivery of more than 180,000 vaccine doses, in March with more than a million,” said the head of department. In the second quarter, the delivery volume will almost triple compared to the first.
Of the cans delivered so far – including those already booked for next week – over 500,000 were delivered by Biontech / Pfizer, more than 150,000 by AstraZeneca and 36,000 vaccination doses by Moderna. “At present a person in Austria is vaccinated every 5.5 seconds on average,” according to a broadcast by the Ministry of Health.
Just need one more stitch?
The approval process for the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson represents a “special hope” – the Ministry of Health expects approval in mid-March and the first deliveries in the course of April. It would be the first Covid vaccine that only needs one “prick” instead of two vaccinations.
Most of the old people’s and nursing homes interested in vaccination have already been vaccinated “as a first priority”. Anschober: “ The number of infections and deaths with or due to Covid have been falling in the old people’s and nursing homes for weeks very positively. At the end of November we had 4,300 active cases of infection among residents, today there are only 359.” The number of deaths in such facilities has also fallen dramatically.
