Marco van Basten is convinced that Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is far from the end of the flagpole. He even sees the BVB striker ahead of Robert Lewandowski from FC Bayern in his personal ranking.
“I think he’s better. At this age he’s already so dominant. I am convinced that he can also play really well,” said three-time Ballon d’Or winner van Basten on the Dutch TV show ‘ Rondo ‘by Ziggo Sport.
Haaland set a record against Sevilla FC (3-2) in the Champions League on Wednesday. With his two goals, the 20-year-old increased his mark to 17 goals in the first 13 games – so far no player in the premier class has succeeded.
“I think he can do a lot more than we think now,” said van Basten of the Norwegian attacker. Haaland is a “very intelligent player. He has very good technique and scores a lot of goals,” said the 56-year-old.
But you shouldn’t consider him a pure center forward: “I also see how he plays a pass or a nice one-two or just finds a gap. He’s really a special boy,” concluded van Basten.
