We are talking about Merelize van der Merwe (32). She lives in the South African province of Limpopo, where she runs a citrus fruit farm. Her great passion is hunting. And her husband satisfied her for Valentine’s Day with a very special gift: a hunt in a wildlife park. 
The goal: kill a giraffe!
Van der Merwe published photos of himself with the giraffe heart on Facebook. Under a video in which a giraffe heart is cut out, she proudly writes that the organ weighs around 11 kilograms.
“Go to hell!”
Since then, the Internet has been hunting the huntress: “Go to hell!”, Writes one user. One woman says that one should tear out the heart of the South African woman and feed it to the animals.

Van der Merwe herself claims that by publishing the giraffe heart pictures she just wanted to mock the animal welfare lobby.
Giraffe sighted, plans changed
In other Facebook photos, the 32-year-old poses next to the giraffe that was shot. She proudly holds the rifle in one hand and leans on the giraffe with the other. In another picture, the South African stands behind the dead animal. Your arms are stretched out. She shines all over her face.
How did the disturbing images come about? Van der Merwe and her husband were planning a trip to the holiday resort of Sun City in the north of South Africa for the weekend of Valentine’s Day when a friend suddenly contacted them. He tells them that much sought-after prey has been sighted in a wildlife park. And one that Marelize van der Merwe would like.

She has been waiting for her own perfect bull for years, as the South African is quoted in the “Mirror”. “

The couple’s plans for the Valentine’s Day weekend would then have changed quickly. “My wonderful husband Gerhardt knew that this was my dream,” says van der Merwe. “For two weeks I counted the days like a child.”
The hunting fun is said to have cost the equivalent of 1900 francs.
Already 500 animals killed
She shot the 17-year-old giraffe with a “perfect head-on shot in the neck,” as she wrote on a Facebook video. It was “fantastic” to carry out the coup de grace afterwards. “Even if it wasn’t necessary.”
Van der Merwe is said to have started hunting as a five-year-old, according to “Mirror”. She has killed 500 animals to date. Including lions, leopards, elephants.
Van der Merwe sees nothing wrong with her latest trophy either. On the contrary: she says that the shooting down that day created work for eleven people. In addition, there is now a lot of meat for the locals.
