Liverpool crisis continues: Klopp loses the derby against Everton with Reds

The  negative run of Jürgen Klopp and his Liverpool FC in the Premier League is taking on historic dimensions. © The  defending champion lost the city derby against FC Everton 0: 2 (0: 1) and conceded the fourth defeat in a row. That never happened in the Klopp era – the last time the Reds had such a negative run was in December 2002.

Klopp had already ticked off successfully defending his title, but now Liverpool is also threatened with losing connection to the Champions League places. As sixth, the Reds are three points behind in fourth place, which is enough for the premier class.

Despite significantly more possession and numerous chances to score, the defending champion failed to score – Everton, on the other hand, struck through Richarlison (3rd) right from the start and drew level with their rivals on points in the table. Everton, trained by the former Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti, now concentrated on the defensive and brought the first victory on Anfield since September 1999 with a little luck over time.

A controversial penalty, which Gylfi Sigurdsson (83.) converted, made for the decision. Previously, the injury worries on Liverpool’s defense had worsened again: In the middle of the first half, captain Jordan Henderson, who had recently acted as a central defender due to the long absence of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, had to be replaced. A diagnosis was still pending.

Meanwhile, the winning streak of the German team manager Thomas Tuchel with Chelsea is broken. With the national players Timo Werner and Antonio Rüdiger in the starting line-up, the Londoners only scored 1-1 (0: 1) at FC Southampton coached by Ralph Hasenhüttl after their last five successes. Tuchel, with the Blues since late January, had five wins and one draw from his first six competitive games with Chelsea.

© The  series ended because Chelsea initially found hardly any gaps against the very attentive defensive of the Saints. Mason Mount (54th) showed strong nerves from the penalty spot and equalized. Previously, Southampton had struck ice cold through Takumi Minamino (33rd), who was on loan from Liverpool FC. For the Saints ended a negative run from the last six defeats in the league in a row.
