The first vaccination centers in Lower Saxony vaccinated all people under the age of 65 with the AstraZeneca vaccine. You can now start with the second priority group.
This allows them to be enacted by the state today, as the deputy head of the Corona crisis team, Claudia Schröder, said at the weekly press conference. Specifically, this means that, among other things, all employees from occupational groups in reintegration assistance, from institutions for the disabled and all employees in the health sector can be vaccinated.
Vaccination concept for educators, elementary and special school teachers in progress
The departments concerned want to work on a vaccination concept for educators and teachers at primary and special schools this afternoon. It should also be discussed when the vaccinations for these two professional groups can start. According to Schröder, one suggestion that is being discussed is to send mobile teams to the facilities. “We want to vaccinate these professional groups as effectively and quickly as possible, so such measures are appropriate.”
Vaccinations for people aged 80 and over continue to run in parallel
According to a recommendation by the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko), the AstraZeneca vaccine is only used to vaccinate people who are younger than 65 years. All people who are older receive the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer or Moderna.
The vaccinations for people aged 80 and over are still running in the vaccination centers, as Schröder said.
“We vaccinate everything promptly”
According to Schröder, Lower Saxony has received 570,400 vaccine doses from Biontech / Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca so far. Of these, 445,975 doses had been inoculated by Monday evening. “We vaccinate everything that we receive in the form of vaccine, promptly.” For the deliveries that came last week, the dates still have to be assigned. Because the appointment allocation is linked to the amount of the vaccine delivered.
The re are also no doses of the AstraZenecca vaccine in stockpile.
Side effects of AstraZeneca “not dramatic”
In the past few weeks, some hospitals had temporarily suspended the vaccinations of their employees with this vaccine after some of those vaccinated had called in sick because of side effects.
The se cases would be closely monitored and forwarded to the Paul Ehrlich Institute, among other things, said Schröder. From there, however, there is feedback that the side effects are within the expected range and are not dramatic.
The y usually go away after two days. In principle, it is good if the body reacts to the vaccination, said Schröder. “That suggests that good protection is being built.”
