The expected changes in the top three men and women brought the world rankings published on Monday: Dominic Thiem does not appear in the top three for the first time since March 2, 2020 and had to line up behind Melbourne finalist Daniil Medvedev (RUS).
The Russian is now 610 points ahead of the Lower Austrian, only 115 behind Rafael Nadal. Melbourne champion Novak Djokovic is over 2,000 points ahead.
In the women’s category, Australian Open winner Naomi Osaka has climbed from third to second, while the Japanese are still 1,351 points short of leader Ashleigh Barty. Serena Williams, who climbed from eleventh to seventh place, is back in the top ten.
Both rankings are to be viewed with caution because of the special CoV rules, because the period of validity of the points is considerably extended. Thiem’s finals from Melbourne 2020 to 2022 and from the French Open 2019 to this June will remain in place. Thiem is currently again the only top 100 player from Austria because Dennis Novak lost four places and is now 102nd.
