Ford has added a new, 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission to its range for vehicles with electrified EcoBoost mild hybrid powertrains. As an alternative to the manual 6-speed manual transmission, the new 7-speed automatic is expected to be available on request from mid-March, initially for the Ford Fiesta and Ford Puma series – each in combination with the 1.0-liter EcoBoost Mild Hybrid drive (48 volt technology). This automatic transmission ensures increased driving comfort, especially in the city and in stop-and-go traffic – with reduced fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions at the same time.  The  Ford EcoBoost mild hybrid drive is a 48 volt mild hybrid technology and thus the entry into the world of electric mobility. This means: At lower speeds, the EcoBoost petrol engine in the Ford Fiesta and Ford Puma is supported by an electric motor – more precisely: by a belt-driven integrated starter / generator (BISG) with an output of 11.5 kW (16 hp). © www.de24.news

 The  Ford Fiesta and the Ford Puma with EcoBoost mild hybrid technology do not need an external power source, because the air-cooled 48 volt lithium-ion battery (10 Ah), which supplies the electric motor (BISG) with power, is automatically activated by the braking system Roll out and charged when the vehicle brakes (recuperation).

 The  dual clutch architecture ensures a harmonious power delivery and optimized gear changes: In “Sport” mode, the new 7-speed automatic transmission in the Puma EcoBoost Mild-Hybrid makes better use of the low gears – for sportier dynamics. A quick downshifting of the gears is also made possible for maximum acceleration, for example when overtaking. For the three Puma ST-Line variants (ST-Line, ST-Line X and ST-Line Vignale), manual shifting is also possible using the standard sporty paddles on the steering wheel.

Advanced driver assistance systems

 The  combination of EcoBoost mild hybrid drive and 7-speed automatic transmission enables advanced driver assistance technologies such as the adaptive cruise control system with stop & go function: the system adapts its own speed to the vehicle in front and brakes to a standstill if necessary and starts off again automatically after a brief stop of less than three seconds.
