Curling: known Swiss World Cup teams
The world champions of the CC Aarau around Skip Silvana Tirinzoni and the Geneva Olympics third around Skip Peter De Cruz will represent Switzerland at the upcoming curling world championships. In best-of-5 series in Biel they prevailed as fresh Swiss champions against last year’s Swiss champions Oberwallis (Elena Stern) and Bern Zähringer (Yannick Schwaller). Swiss Curling had scheduled the two jump-offs because the championship teams of 2020 had no opportunity to assert themselves in World Cup tournaments due to the pandemic.
It is still unclear whether and where the women’s World Cup, scheduled for mid-March, can be held after the organizers have withdrawn from Schaffhausen. The men’s title fights should be able to take place as planned in Calgary in early March.
Skicross: World champion Fiva and Corona sick
The newly crowned ski cross world champion Alex Fiva has tested positive for the corona virus. Swiss-Ski announced this on Sunday afternoon. Team mate Ryan Regez’s test was also positive. “Both athletes feel mild cold symptoms and are now in isolation,” said the press release.
The close contacts were identified and sent to quarantine, including team member Saskja Lack. Fiva, Regez and Lack will therefore be canceled for the World Cup in Bakuriani (GEO), which will take place from February 26th to 28th.
