Instead of a four-country tournament, the women’s national team will play two test matches against France on Saturday and Tuesday.
In the two international matches, coach Nils Nielsen has to do without the legionnaires from England due to the current entry restrictions. Lia Wälti, Noëlle Maritz, Malin Gut (all Arsenal) and Alisha Lehmann (Everton) were able to take part in the women’s national team’s training camp this week, but will be absent in Metz.
A four-country tournament was originally planned in France, but Iceland and Norway canceled their participation due to the corona situation.
Nati expects the playoffs in April
The test matches against the host of the World Cup in 2019 serve the Swiss women as preparation for the likely playoff games in April. Probably because it is theoretically still possible for the Nati to qualify as one of the three best runners-up in the group for the 2022 European Championship finals in England. But this is not expected in the Swiss camp.
At the beginning of December, the women’s national team had missed their first chance to qualify for the European Championship with a 4-0 defeat against Belgium.
