Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 will be available from February 25, 2021
Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 3060 starts on February 25th and with a simple trick Nvidia wants to prevent the already limited amounts – as with other RTX 30 cards – from being negatively influenced by crypto miners. As Nvidia announced in a blog post on Thursday, an important measure has been taken to ensure that the new Geforce GPUs really get into “the hands of gamers”. “We designed GeForce GPUs for gamers, and gamers want more,” said Nvidia.
The trick: Using the drivers for the Geforce RTX 3060, the hash rate in Ethereum mining is artificially halved by up to 50 percent. This also reduces cryptocurrency mining efficiency. For this purpose, a routine is integrated in the Nvidia drivers for the RTX 3060 that recognizes whether the GPU is being used by software for crypto mining. The Nvidia GPUs can be programmed accordingly so that the corresponding applications can be recognized.
For crypto mining, Nvidia recommends the Nvidia CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor), which is designed for professional mining and available through partners.
