Now it’s official: Leipzig’s defender Dayot Upamecano is moving to Bayern Munich this summer. Both clubs announced this on Sunday.
Upamecano, who played in Salzburg from summer 2015 to January 2017, is withdrawing his contractually agreed release clause and will wear the Bayern jersey from July 1st. The 22-year-old Frenchman signed a five-year contract with the record champions until 2026. According to reports, 42.5 million euros will go to RB as a transfer.
“We are happy that we were able to win Dayot Upamecano for FC Bayern Munich”, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic was quoted in a press release: “Dayot will be a very important component for our team in the coming years, we are convinced of that.

The Leipzigers regret the early departure of the three-time national player France, who has played 139 games for RB so far. “However, Dayot signaled to us very fairly and promptly that he would like to look for a new challenge this summer,” said managing director Oliver Mintzlaff: “Now we will get the best possible out of the season together with Dayot.”
