For several days, Germany has been discussing how to deal with “pre-vaccinators”. Now there is apparently a prominent example in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with District Administrator Kerth.

by Stefan Ludmann, NDR 1 Radio MV Aktuell

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there is the first known case of a politician who was vaccinated against Corona prematurely.  The  district administrator of the Vorpommern-Rügen district, Stefan Kerth (SPD), admitted on Monday evening at the district assembly in Grimmen that he had received the vaccine early.

Kerth does not belong to any Risoko group

Kerth is 44 years old. According to the recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission and the country’s vaccination concept, the Social Democrat does not belong to the risk group. So far, mainly people over 80 and medical staff have been vaccinated. Because vaccine is scarce, the vaccinations in the so-called vulnerable groups are not yet completed.

Vaccination when the vaccination center opens

The  result was Kerth’s early vaccination when the parliamentary group “Citizens for Stralsund / FDP” asked. Kerth said in Question Time that he had received the vaccine when the only vaccination center in the district opened so far. At the time he was at the facility in Stralsund at the end of work. He said “several times” that he did not want to be vaccinated. But since otherwise the vaccine would have expired, “a vaccination was given” – according to Kerth. But he was not vaccinated a second time afterwards. Kerth said the vaccination was three weeks ago – but the vaccination center in Stralsund started on January 12th. Kerth would therefore be one of the few who had been vaccinated in the first half of January.

Left: District Administrator should have found people in need of protection

The  leader of the Left Party, Wenke Brüdgam, called Kerth’s vaccination “morally reprehensible”. As the district administrator, it would have been his job to find people to whom corona protection would actually have been granted, said Brüdgam, who is a member of the district council. © www.de24.news

The  reason that there was still a vaccine that would otherwise have had to be thrown away seems “threadbare”. If that were the case, the vaccination was not well prepared. This creates the “uneasy feeling that the vaccine has been taken away from others,” said Brüdgam. © www.de24.news

The  fact that Kerth had not been vaccinated a second time reinforced this impression.

CDU health expert: appearance of pre-jostling

The  health expert of the CDU in the state parliament, Sebastian Ehlers, said that it must have dawned on Kerth by now that he had not behaved in an exemplary manner. For many people, the pandemic is a matter of life and death. It would seem that Kerth pushed his way forward. If that is true, there must be consequences. Ehlers sees the district administrator in need of explanation.

Priority list should regulate the handling of surplus vaccine doses

Kerth could not be reached for a statement on Monday evening. In the district council, he said that it had not yet been regulated how to deal with leftover vaccination doses. In the future, this could not happen arbitrarily. A “priority list” is now being drawn up for the district. Just a month ago, with a view to the only vaccination center in Stralsund, Kerth promised to set up four more facilities: “It is and was very important to me from the start to make vaccination easily accessible to everyone in the district. Especially for the people who can now be vaccinated first, long journeys are often problematic. ” © www.de24.news

The  four other vaccination centers will go into operation with a significant delay; they should be ready for use on March 1st.

SPD vulnerable to unsolidarity

The  alarm bells are ringing in Kerth’s SPD because of the premature vaccination of the top comrade. A social democrat, whom the political opponent can reject in the election campaign, is considered to be a weak point. Kerth and his district are doing well in the fight against the pandemic so far. In Western Pomerania-Rügen, the corona incidence is the lowest nationwide – it is 21.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants within one week (as of February 22, 2021, 4:35 p.m.).

Investigations against mayor von Halle

Nationwide, the Lord Mayor of Halle (Saale), Bernd Wiegand (non-party), was one of the first “pre-vaccinators” to make headlines. Wiegand had also received a vaccination beforehand. © www.de24.news

The  public prosecutor is now investigating against him. It is about the suspicion of “misappropriating misappropriation” of the corona vaccine, explained the investigators.
